[V8] Display Question

No, it is not normal.  There are several bulbs inside that module, I suspect
the one that illuminates the display at night has burned out.  Blaufergnugen
offers(ed?) a kit which includes enough bulbs to replace all of the bulbs in
the instrument cluster ... since you have to take the IC out and apart you
may want to consider replacing them wholesale.  You might also want to apply
contact enhancer to the PC board interconnects while you have the IC apart
... 

You may be able to confirm that the display itself is working by shining a
bright light on the front of the display at night when the radio is on ...
see if you can't make out the radio display. 

... after writing this I realized that this is an awful lot of work just to
be able to know what radio station you're listening to ... in fact, I find
that when I'm in an area where the signal is weak, the updates on the
display are a bit distracting at night ... you may want to save your time
and money and consider it a safety feature ... :-)

My 1990 V8 has a small square display above and between the speedometer and 
the tach.
It displays warning symbols such as battery, low fuel, low wiper fluid, etc.
and also the radio station selected (if the radio is turned ON).

When the headlights are ON, this display dims a bit (this is normal.)  When 
the headlights
are ON, this display will not show the radio station.  When the headlights
are OFF, the radio station is displayed.

This display will show the warning symbols both when the headlights are ON
and OFF (again, dimmed when the headlights are ON).

In summary, the only thing that does not display is the radio station when
the headlights are ON.

Is this normal?

If not, any ideas?
