If one was forced to drive a C5 A6 and MUST have a 3rd pedal then look at a
2004.

When the C5 line was st the end they made a A6 S-Line with 265 HP version of
the 2.7T and of course the 6 speed you seek. (anyone with some knowledge of
the S4 2.7Ts know these engines can easily produce 320 HP without a lot of
money)

I think they can be had right now in the neighborhood $12,000 to 18,000

But, here's the difference, Roger. And, for some of us, it's a deal breaker.

An S6 (C5, of course) has an automatic. Your Proposed A6S has an automatic. 
The ONLY reason mine was bought (automatic) is it's the wife's car. And, 
there is a former lister that I'm close with, who has driven several S6 
Avants. He said, and I agree 100% "At the end of the day, I can't see 
driving an automatic every day, no matter how good it is".
