panel is
misleading. It is the inner panel and window frame that come loose as a
unit. The outer door panel is what's bolted to the car via the hinges. =
I
have had doors apart several times now on various cars and it is the =
only
way to do anything in the door that looks even remotely like it would
require a mirror. =20
There are four bolts to remove and you just have to remember how many =
shims
go where on the bottom two bolts. I've had no issues with any =
adjustments
after reassembly. I have had to disconnect no wiring to separate the =
door
halves, other than what I'm removing/replacing. =20
To separate the motor from the regulator frame without cracking the door
apart will lead to more frustration that you have currently experience.
I have only been into one back door and it was on my 89 200q, but I'm =
quite
sure your's would be no different.

I'm ready to give up. I got a smaller mirror. With some finagling, I can =
see
what I think is the circlip, but only from one side. It could just be a
washer. I can get fingers in there, or an angled circlip pliers, but not
both. I can't see or feel what I might hook the circlip pliers onto to =
get
that circlip off.
Plan B: From the Family Album, MG 8 SG 39 Ill 129-50 makes it seems that =
the
motor (1A, part number 441 959 801 A) can be separated from the =
regulator
("window lifter") itself.
Can the motor be removed from the "window lifter"? Can it be done in =
place?
If I could get the motor out, I might be able to fix it or replace it.
The window is still down, with a plastic trash bag taped in place to =
keep
out the rain and the snow. It survived the 65 MPH gusts we had the other
day.
