[V8] V8 MPG actual

The fact that the engine has eight cylinders is only one factor in the fuel
economy equation.  I suspect most people assume that a "V8" implies a
displacement of 350 cubic inches or more ... these days you can find 6
cylinder engines that have larger displacement than our V8s.  

Nowadays even "big" V8 engines are getting smaller ... the other day I
figured the CID of my new F-150 with the "bigger" motor to be 329CID (5.4
liters).  The funny thing is that comparing the displacement ratios would
mean that a 5.4 liter "V8 quattro" would be a V12 ... i.e. the V8 engine in
the truck has exactly 1.5X the displacement of the V8Q.

I know quite a few of us watch our MPG religiously since it so often
indicates an issue in our cars when it drops.  This whole cash for clunkers
debate had me talking elsewhere about the fueleconomy.gov rating for our
cars (14mpg.)  And of course, folks over there can't seem to wrap their
heads around how an older V8 powered car can possibly get 18, 19, or even
20mpg for an overall mpg average.  So if you all know your mpg, what are you
getting?

My 1990 seems to average around 17 city, 22ish highway, and tank to tank
around 19 doing about 3/4 in town 1/4 highway.
