On the 200s, there is a check valve back at the fuel pump. When it fails,
gas drains back into the tank. When that happens, it takes a few cranks
of the engine and fuel pump to get gas back up to the injectors.

I believe weak injector seals can also let gas leak down.

I don't know if any of this applies to the V8, but my guess is it does.
