There is a detailed procedure in the manual for this - you are
supposed to disconnect the airbags "energy reserve" (actually just a
capacitor, and I think I am using the right words here) before
disconnecting anything, and then be sure not to turn the key on with
the air bag disconnected or you will set an error code that needs vag-
com to reset. BTDT. If the battery is disconnected you should be OK.
The connector for the energy reserve is behind the drivers side
console cover.
