Interesting developments from Norfolk, Virginia, where my daughter lives. A
while ago I asked all of you, the Famous Old Automotive Brain Trust, for a
diagnosis concerning my daughter's Subaru Outback that was having trouble
getting into gear once the car was warmed up.

She checked the transmission fluid and found it somewhat low so added some,
with relatively little change. Then she took the car to Midas for an
analysis and inspection and they told her a new transmission was in order.

Then she took it to an independent garage owned by the father of a colleague
at work, and they gave her a more precise analysis...all of which was going
to require a transmission overhaul at around two grand. She decided to
think about looking for something else. The car has 175,000 miles and has
had too many Maine winters.

Now, two weeks later, the car shifts into gear perfectly, EVERY time, and
the hesitation is completely gone. No sign of gear change hesitation or
transmission issues whatsoever.

She thinks it strange, but I think the problem was corrosion in the
electrical connections of the transmission and engine because of the Maine
history. Once all of that stuff was checked, and whatever inspections were
done, the electrical connections were restored, and the transmission is back
to normal.

We'll wait and see what the next failure is, but as of this writing, the
problem that was so vexing and of such concern two weeks ago, is gone.

Thanks all for the input. The more I hear about my daughter's experience
with this thing, the more impressed with Subaru I become. Awwwwwk!!!! Did
I say that?

Roger
