[V8] Serpentine Belt

Bob,

Technically, no. But you need to remove that metal plate on the back of the alternator, so you'll need to remove the underbelly pan (if still there), alternator cooling duct (again, if still there), and then the back plate. I believe it's attached with 3 screws. Then there's just 2 screws for the regulator. Only problem is I believe that one of those screws for that backing plate is placed such that you need to remove the serpentine belt and move the alternator to get to it.

Good luck.

Do you have to take the alternator out to get to the regulator.? I emailed Bruce at GermanAuto Connection to get the parts and he also thinks it might be the
regulator.

I know what you mean about the Manual or making a diagram of the belt.? When I looked up there I could not believe how many loops that thing makes

Thanks for the help

Bob

I replaced both of the idlesr on mine when I did the serpentine belt. You don't have to remove the fan. However, if you don't have the manual, make a drawing on how the belt is routed (or look at one of your other cars ;-). When I first did mine, I had about a foot of extra belt. The routing made no sense to me. But, once I got the manual out, I understood it completely.?
?
As for the tensioner, I've never replaced mine, but if it seems weak, maybe it's time. I think I'd do the belt first, though. Also, your regulator can be replaced on the alternator, usually it's the brushes that wear out.?
