Oh yeah, AutohausAZ doesn't list it under the V8. You can get there by
entering the Audi p/n, but their number for it is 30097.

Replaced. Did you remove it? The brushes on a new one are like an inch
long. Mine were worn down very far, though not gone, but just not making
good contact anymore.

Did you "Replace" the Voltage Regulator or repair it? And where did you get
the parts from?
I got under there and it didn't look too bad. I think I still need to do
the belt though. Evidence of cracks plus 5 years and 50,000 miles.
Timing Belt will be needed soon. Both the 92 & 93 need timing belts now. I
guess I'll see if I can get a bulk rate!!!!
Thanks Everyone for the help

In my case on the 1990 the back plate was plastic and there are four 8mm
bolts that attach it.
I recently replaced the voltage regulator with the alt in the car:
-disconnect negative cable from battery
-remove belly pan
-remove alt cooling duct
-remove VR
That last step is probably the most troublesome because you can't get a
screwdriver on it directly. I used some pliers to loosen the upper screw
until I could unscrew it with my fingers or a screwdriver.
Not too bad of a job overall.
