Hmm. After thoroughly reading what you actually wrote I would have to say a rather unexciting but reliable Volvo Wagon. Plenty of room for the family and durable enough to handle whatever you can dish out.  I imagine you could find a nice late '90s one. 

Plus we have a local Euro parts supplier and their fleet consists entirely of older Volvo wagons. And you know they don't want to spend a lot on maintenance :-D
