Hi Dave-

Good to hear from you - Hope all is well with you and yours.

I can see how your son would like your lowered and decorated car.
Even from a complete purists perspective, I would also make some
of the mods like those on your car. Swapping out wheels to preserve
the originals makes perfect sense particularly up here in the N'East
where there is salt, slippery roads and curbs. I know here, some buy
a second set of originals new from the dealer, just to keep for when
they sell the car. Also better brakes are always welcome!

I agree, it would be hard to predict future values for any car with
any certainty. But almost always low production numbers coupled
with bristling technical specification, along with good build quality
and deft lines has been favored in the past.

Take for example any early Bugatti model, racer, or limo. Or the wise
people who saved the sheet metal from the roofs they cut from all the
Daytona's or Ghibli making them spiders. Which over time some say
began to out number the coupes left. Or, the recent trend of six-figure
muscle car counterfeits! Were, too many of the originals, reshaped by
road-side trees? Again hard to know going forward with any certainty
what might apply to the V8Q.

I agree, with your list of cars that may likely outperform the V8Q
as future collectibles. Of them, I'd look into the RS6 and the URQ.
Even though, I think the URQ looks like a crude antique next to the V8.
I would still like to find and keep one of these - perhaps one with some
sort of winning racing history. Here in the NE many of the URQs are
not worth having due to how quickly they rust.

Best,
Ed

The first thing my son said when he picked up my 91 V8 5 spd with
a 4.2, painted nissan white w/pearl, and Bira System 2, and H&R/Konis,
and EVO spoiler: "This is how it should have come from the factory..."
The value of these cars will stabilize, but will never significantly
increase. They are not urqs, RS2s, RS4s, RS6s, R8s, etc, etc.
They are a great car, that's all. They can be made better, and enjoyed.
They are the best type 44 made IMHO (although the 200q20V guys would
be happy to argue the fact).

Next year the urq 20V is 25 years old - meaning there will be NO import
restrictions on them of ANY kind. The smart guy would find a primo
example now, buy it and pay storage fees for a year over in europe -
then bring it over...
