[V8] Throttle cable connection woes

Just got my inlet manifold back in and went to reconnect the throttle
cable.
For those who've never had the joy of stretching your hamstrings on a
26 degree day, leaning over to the back center of the engine.
The end of the cable has a bulge which fits into a black plastic (Yes
plastic!) retainer. Then it's prevented from slipping out with a tiny
metal clip.
The plastic retainer just broke in two when I touched it.
It looks like its molded onto the metal end of the rest of the
throttle assembly.
Anyone got any ideas how to fix it?
Right now the cable falls back into the part below, which might
possibly hold it, but then I'm not getting the full travel of the
throttle.
It's also a right pain trying to fix anything back there.
Mark.
