the Key indicator here to the failure of the Speedo transmitter is when you drive the car until warm/hot ... the speedometer fails . ( drops and goes to 0 ) . after the failure of the Speedo Transmitter ( ST ) it may shut the engine off as it gets hotter ( heat soaked )

I have a spare brand new AT ZF4HP24A sitting in my garage, so I took out the ST ... for some reason this has two electrical prongs ( 012 409 191 A ) and not three (012 409 191 G) like the one that I pulled out of the car. The car is now running without a speedo transmitter and it's running fine with no shut downs . If I use part 012 409 191 A ) my car will run, but the speedo shows double ... if you are driving at 60 it'll register 120 !!

9 things about the Speedo transmitter

1) you need to have small hands like a child to take the part out .

2) the part is on the Drivers side of Transmition , front near the LH axel flange

3) cost is $57.00 CAD for the Part .

4) install wrong ST = 2x the speed on the speedo . The cut off for my cars speedo is 225 KPH ask me how I know this :-)

5) part numbers 012 409 191 G or 012 409 191 A

6) the Transmitter is snapped into place , no real hardware used to attach !!

7) The ST has plastic finger that holds it into place .

8) the electrical connection has be taking off first before you try to remove it ST .

9) time to do the job about 1/2 hour .

cheers

superdave
