Good point. I always go with the oem aluminum with plastic endcaps -- I figure at least 100k between heater cores works for me.

If the PO went with a brass/copper heater core, it may well have  
failed this quickly.  I had that problem.  It seems that this cooling  
system will not tolerate a different metal type.  The instructions for  
the core said it had to be grounded or this would happen.  They were  
right.
