... the problem with the existing wire is that it is designed for sending a
low power signal to an amplifier mounted near the speaker, and not the full
power to drive the speaker. You can certainly try using the wire to drive
speakers directly ... no worries of melting wires or anything ... but it
will affect the maximum volume and sound quality.

It shouldn't be that difficult to run proper speaker wire to the front
doors, and the channels under the door sills aren't that difficult to get
into.

So, I got the Alpine deck out this morning(stereo guy did, as I
didn't have the removal tool), and there was no "interface/OEM amp
adapter" box. The original connectors have been removed, and
everything's crimped. At this point, since the front's are failing/
rears are lacking amps, I'm thinking of putting 2 new 4" speakers in
the front boxes, and hooking them directly to the stereo. There are
4 wires in the connector. Might I only need 2 of them(source/
ground)? I like good sound, but am half deaf, and just want a stereo
that works. I was hoping not to run new wire, and will leave the
rears for now, as they sound fine(till I get the new ones in the
doors)....The stereo is 18WattsRMSX4 and I'm not a full blast kind of
guy.....Do I need to run speaker wire.....was hoping for a quick/
dirty install as I'm too busy to run wire/figure out the bundle in
dash/too broke to pay stereo guy...........Any BTDT...Tom
