[V8] P/S, hydraulic pump leaks

I'd guess your pump is leaking from one of the mushroom caps you can't see
while it's in place.

The pump can be rebuilt. Last kit I bought was $6 from Autohausaz. It did
include the shaft seal. I've never seen a shaft seal leak oil out. What
they normally do is suck air in, causing the oil to foam up. The resulting
froth contributes to the famous Pentosin Volcano.

I don't believe you can source a new pump. They'll all be rebuilt.
However good that is depends upon the rebuilder. I'd only trust a know
rebuilder or one from ZF itself.

Be aware the V8 version of the pump is V8-specific. No other pump will fit
into the bracket, at least not without grinding away part of the body of a
5k/100/200 pump.

The Bentley for Type 44s has a great writeup on pump resealing. You'll
need a press if you decide to do the front seal because you have to remove
the pulley flange, which is pressed into place.

Subject: [V8] P/S, hydraulic pump leaks

Some background, 1990 V8q, 71k miles. Not many miles but still pushing 20
years old. Here is the problem I need the collectives help with.

The P/S--Hydraulic pump is leaking, No visible leaks at or around the hoses
never been touched since Hans torqued them on in DE. No leaks from the 3
screw caps I can see. I think it may be leaking from the shaft seal, down
to the A/C compressor, to the ground or blown back to the exhaust and then
smokes comes out the lt frt . The serpentine belt is wet with the oil.

Of the repair options out there, which one you lean towards,

1. Buy a rebuilt from local parts store

2. Re-seal this one and hope it works, ( if its the shaft seal is that part
of the kit )

3. Send this pump out to a authorized ZF rebuilder

4. Trade the V8 in on a Peogout, since after Lemans, ALL IS LOST

Thanks, Bob
