[V8] kick down not working

The common manner of failure is the switch body itself collapses and will no
longer trigger the switch. It is mounted to the firewall where the
accelerator cable goes through. I have had 50% success with a rather crude
repair. The way all of this is attached also affects how the cable routes
through the wall. When the kickdown switch collapses the cable is not held
perpendicular to the firewall. This can be seen inside the engine
compartment. My repair was done using yellow contractor's string and
basically lashing the accelerator cable back into position in the engine
compartment. You pull on the cable and get it perpendicular then lash it
into place. I did this 5 years ago on the 1990 V8 and it has held every
since and the kickdown works. I tried something similar with my 93 V8 and
it didn't seem to work. I think I used thin wire on it though and don't
recall it seeming to come out quite the same as on the 1990.
YMMV

Subject: [V8] kick down not working
Hi All
I had come to the conclusion that the kickdown switch on the throttle cable
isn't working.
ever since I've owned this car its always changed gear at 4800rpm in "E" and
5400ish in "S" no matter how hard you stamp on the pedal.
While its been off the road for 2 months having the heads sorted out, I've
been driving another V8 whos' kickdown most certainly works!!
I have found the switch at the end of the cable but the wires disappear
behind all the insulation. Where do they end up? or what pin number on the
ecu can I check?
Many thanks for those of you that offered advice with my head rebuild. Its
all back together with no blue smoke anymore... but still no go!!
