[V8] What Car Next?

I agree with the S8. Exclusivity, very wonderful music emits from the engine and the transmissions are strong. Another great attribute to owning an S8 is the low maintenance cost, though the thermostat tend to stick and causes the engine to over heat. Another great car/wagon would be an S6. Prices are all over the board on these cars, but a nice example with complete maintenance history will be a little tough to find, maybe not. Anyhow, good luck with your quest.

Bill,

I went thru the same drill a few months ago. After 9 years of ownership, finally sold my V8Q. I loved my V8 (who wouldn't!), but I was looking for something a bit stronger off the line and frankly I was getting tired of starting to replace everything due to rust/wear (yeah...weak).

I started out looking at the 2000-2002 S4, noted that the A6 2.7 of the same vintage seemed a better bargain. Was pretty sure that was what I was going for...until I drove my first 2001 S8. Driving one of these is a BAD idea. Not a whole lot more $$ than a good A6 2.7, but felt like home after my time with my V8Q. Shares the exclusivity (maybe more--I think there were only 300 2003's sold) and "stealth" of the V8Q. Incredibly torquey yet wonderful power at 7000 rpm (thanks to variable cam timing and intake runner lengths). 120 more horsepower--I get the identical gas mileage (15 in town, 22-23 on the road). Ended up with a 98K mile (new TB and brand new tires/brakes), one owner/full mx records, perfect black/caramel, 2003 for $15.7...I could not be happier (...well if only it had a 6 sp MT...).

Good luck!

Ken
