Steve,
Two problems is a definite possibility.
I haven't seen any loss of brake fluid so far though. And the brake
master cylinder, would simply have to be replaced, I guess, as I can't
think of a test for it.
Re sensor positions.
There's really not a whole lot to position. The sensor pushes into its
slot and that's that.
And as far as gunk on the drive shaft teeth and sensor end goes, it's
not really a 'gunky' area.
It's basically dry, dusty and slightly rusty teeth. (maybe I should
floss them? ha ha ha)
I cleaned the sensors on the front wheels, but they really weren't
dirty.

... you may have more than one problem ...
If the pedal drops you may have a problem with a seal in the master
cylinder
... you might also want to check the calipers to make sure none of them
are
leaking ... a leak at a caliper would cause you to lose fluid over time
...
Did anyone recommend that you check the positioning of the wheel sensors
on
the hubs? That and gunked up sensing ribs on the hubs would be what I'd
recommend you check first ...
