When these things happen, the adrenaline (or whatever you want to call
it) kicks in, you weight the options, and usually stomp the accelerator to
the floor and enjoy the ride. I did the same thing on a slant 6 many
moons ago, cost me a hood and an engine, the piston blew out the block
and through the hood.....AND the damn thing went 11 miles in this
condition before giving up the ghost in a rather spectacular, Viking way.

Same thing happened to me on my snow thrower, connecting rod snapped and
that's all she wrote. Was it a Tecumseh too?

MAC: A friend got a V8Q into his shop which had a brand new Ericksson
rebuild installed by another shop in it. It was having trouble shifting.
No dipstick, so I used the one of mine and checked the fluid, it was 7
quarts low. Put in 7 quarts to get a reading on the stick, car shifted
beautifully, for about 5 minutes. Started it up and went to back it into
a parking space and BANG, something snapped inside the box. Worked out
OK for me though, owner didn't want anything to do with the car anymore
and I got a nice parts car for free. Slapped my plate on it and had AAA
tow it home.
