[V8] Fuel pump removal questions, Strainer removal?

Both sizes of pumps fit into their individual sized carriers that fit into
the retaining basket mounted to the bottom of the tank.

The carriers come out of the retainer basket with a counter-clockwise
twist. Some folks have been able to release the carrier by hand or by
gloved hands, and some of us have required the special tool that lets you
use a 1/2-inch drive ratchet.

Replacement, of course, is the clockwise twist. That's usually easier than
release efforts.

Regarding the strainer, that was a suggestion for in-tank pumps that were
making a lot of noise from straining to get fuel past accumulated flaking
from the inside of the tank. I don't recall that being an issue with V8
tanks.

There are two types of pumps that can be fitted and they're different sizes
and I'm not sure if this applies to both but in my experience, you have to
twist to unlock and then you can lift it out.

Hey, Just curious how to get the fuel pump out of the fuel tank? I've got
the Float/reostat/stuff out right now to fix the fuel gauge and want to get
the fuel pump out to clean the strainer. Not sure if it just pulls out ,
or I think there is a ring there that needs to be moved? Not sure.

Anyway, Also pulled up an article stating I should removed the strainer?
That sounds a bit drastic, but it states that this won't hurt the pump and
will keep it from straining to pump.
