If you want to upgrade, there are several options. As Nick mentioned, you can modify the housings to accept HID's. You can relay the lights and put higher wattage bulbs in, and you can go with the Euro's. Any one of these three is a good upgrade, it depends on the amount of time and money you are willing to spend. I did the relay and 100W high beams, and have been very pleased with the preformance of them. I also upgraded the low beam bulbs to silverstars, and aimed the lights. The aiming and relaying seemed to make the beggest difference.
I had relayed euro's on my 4000Q, and was also very impressed with them. However, they are a good bit more necessary on that car than the V8. The V8 lights stock are probably 300% better on low beam, and at least 600% better on high beam than the 4000 stock lights. However, the euro's are even better than the V8 stock lights, so that's up to you if you need the extra lighting.
I have driven cars with HID's but never installed them on an older car. However, I'm told it's not that bad by others.
