Well I finally got around to looking at my plugs/etc. on the 5-speed
to try and determine why it still felt a bit off....Previous owner
did a complete tune up(minus wires) plus a million other things
before I got the car, and it ran seemingly great, except for a bit of
a vibration when revved past 2K. So I pulled the plugs(new Bosch
Super Plus HR7DC and they were sooty/smelled like gas. The oxygen
sensor that I replaced last week that was also newer and sooty and
was giving me a code. I decided to throw the set of Autolite 103's
in there that I never got around to putting in the Lago car. While
the plug wires didn't look ancient, I decided to swap them for the
new ones that were in the Lago car that is still sitting awaiting
time/money for the timing belt. As soon as I pulled one of the new
ones, I realized how stiff the others actually were. I also removed
the K&R filter, as I noticed some very fine dust underneath, and had
cleaned/oiled it a few months ago, and put the new Mann filter on
that was in the Lago car. VRRRRROOOOOOOOMMMMMM!
Feels like a turbo kicks in around 4K....Mileage to Seattle and back
(160 miles) shot up to 24.3 and that was with trying to make up time
on the way down......Only bummer is that now I've got to buy another
set for the Lago car(in addition to the TB parts) since even though I
verified that it started, wouldn't even consider running those
wires....I've even kept the set off the Lago car(105K) for some
reason, but can't imagine ever having a use for them. New wires are
the key to happiness.......Tom
