[V8] [Bulk] Autonomous TTS - Driver Unaware!

I wasn't able to access the article, but it is not a big surprise. It
continues to amuse me how the government allows manufacturers to add
features which "dumb down" the requirements for drivers, and then passes
laws to deal with their irresponsible behavior (cell phone ban and such).
You can buy a Prius that can parallel park itself and has a cruise control
which ensures you follow at a safe distance. Mercedes has a braking system
that pushes the brakes for you if you're unfamiliar with the laws of physics
and not slowing down quickly enough to avoid hitting something. All these
systems are great in their way, but make it so the driver feels no
responsibility for the vehicle, its passengers and others around them. I'm
all for allowing these features on vehicles, but I feel there is a need to
increase the required skill level of drivers ... perhaps by imposing skill
demonstration tests as part of the licensing process.

I completely enjoy going for drives and rides on "country roads" where there
is little traffic, but consider how great it would be to have a multi-mode
vehicle where I could engage an autopilot to take me where I'm going in
traffic ... if I can't get a car that does both I'd see myself buying a
cheap appliance for commute duties ... not so sure I'd buy an expensive car
just for commuting. Of course most of my commuting is done on a motorcycle
anyway ...

So the "Driver" will be replaced.  Enjoy driving while you can still push
the clutch in.  We are all going by the wayside.

I think a lot of this technology comes from the DARPA Grand Challenge
entries over the past years.
