Bingo!  I guess the problem is in the driver's door switch as the rubber
boot is torn at the tip.  

I can't deal with it today, but I will pull the switch and examine it later.
In the end, I imagine that I will need to replace the switch and the boot
assembly.

Thanks to all. I figured that the issue was probably in the door.  I am
trying to get the garage cleaned out, really I am.
