Get it on level ground, pull the tranny drain plug and see what and
how much comes out. Look for fluid quality and if there's any hard
bits in it.
Then add a gallon of store brand ATF through the dipstick tube and see
if the trans behaves any differently. If you feel that you gain some
function with this process, the next step would be to pull the trans
pan and check/clean/replace the filter (mesh screen).
You might just get lucky.
Glad to hear it's a nice example and worth saving. I'm not close, but
I do have a working transmission in a driveable 92 that isn't spoken
for. I thought I'd keep it for potential future use, but might be
able to be talked out of it.

was just was really grimy and dirty. Has a couple of dents that can be taken
care of later but this car is way to nice to part out. Not a bad V8 at all,
seems to have been well taken care of. Battery was dead of course. Charged
it and started. Guess what, throttle rod stuck. Got that taken care of and
it runs awesome. OK, now the whole point of the car being so cheap, the
tranny. When you put it in gear it just whines, does'nt engage at all. I can
hear it spinning but thats it. Before I deem the tranny mechanically bad
what things should I try first? Appreciate all your guys help Jeff
