The price of a good V8 is very low these days. I paid a little over $2K for my
'90 V8 converted to a 5-speed. It has lots of nice modifications, which probably
cost 4-5 times the price of the car. A V8 needing lots of fiddling, including
the big T-Belt, isn't worth much. Sadly, parting it out may not be worth the
time and effort either.

If the driving son doesn't want to do the work to keep it, I'd say sell if for
whatever you can get for it and treat yourself to a nice dinner out. Then let
junior find and fund his own ride. :)
