Which also reminds of testing by disconnecting it the sensor completely and
seeing how she runs.

And, on the flip side, if it fails completely the ECU goes on the engine 175
degrees default fuel and ignition map, causing a lean condition when
starting cold.
However, this sounds opposite of what's happening here.
