I don't think the ABS rings are a function of the brakes directly. I
thought that was actually part of or neighboring the drive axles, hubs, or
cv joints.

I suspect my pad warning and ABS light are related to the non-stock Mercedes
calipers and A8 rotors -- the pads probably don't have the sensors, and I
couldn't tell you if the brakes even have the ABS rings. Right now I can
drive it legally, so I'm happy. And once you start driving these things,
you start making a list of things to fix. That list is starting to grow.
But the hard work has been done (he says naively).
