I would keep an eye on Amazon if you're not in a hurry. I wanted/needed
one with active scanning etc. which was about $200. One day I'm on there
buying something else and the "you might be interested based on prior
etc." on the page had a clearance on the scanner for $95. The model that
replaced it has the same features and, surprise, has a $200 price. All
brands are basically the same, it's the features you have to shop for.
With a POS Cheby in the fold, I use it often to reset the "check engine"
regularly for a "they all do that" problem or two. If you don't reset,
the ecu does bad things such as keep fans on till they burn out.
Get the best scanner you can for your budget, by using the live scan
feature on a friends BlowVo (shop said he needed a new $6000
transmission) I noticed that the RR wheel was going 212 MPH, something
the glorified brick can only do during an owners wet dream. Turned out
to be a broken sensor ring (have to replace the hub), no check engine
light or codes, live scan saved his bacon, at least 1000 lbs of the
gourmet kinds worth.

BCNU,
Yahoo nuked my website with no warning.
