Great story.  I can totally identify with the whole "sir" thing.

Reminds me of once, many moons ago when I was going through the airport
tunnel on what seemed like the hottest day of the year and traffic was at a
dead stop.  Saw the cause was a dead 5KS holding things up.  TFBG (trust
fund baby girl) was flustered and panicked, cranking and cranking, bitching
about daddy not giving her the Benz she wanted.  I played a hunch, told her
to relax,  opened the hood, removed the fuse box cover, pulled the fuel pump
relay, gave it few scrapes and taps with some keys, plugged it back in and
acted very non-chalant when it sparked right up. 
I was probably more surprised it worked than she was.  ;-)  When she thanked
me with a "sir" in the sentence, kind of killed the whole "vibe" a bit.
