Owned 3 myself. Totally built the first and the last with all the toys.... Great cars, and the best factory recaros in the S.

1 1978 Scirocco S Open Class Rally Car (1979-1984)
5spd close ratio diesel gearbox conversion
    Full SCCA Open Class Spec
1 1981 Scirocco S ---- (1982-1985)
GTI 4 wheel disc brake conversion
   GTI teardrop 14x6
   Audi 5000 Turbo CIS conversion
1 1981 Scirocco S Street car (1985-1991)
GMP built 2liter Big Valve conversion engine
  Mukini radial slide carbs
Corrado 4 wheel disc Brake upgrade
  Bilstein/Eibachs
ADDCO swaybar kits front and rear
Upper and lower stress bar Front
   Triangulated Stress Bar rear
  Gillet dual downpipe euro exhaust
  19 row oil cooler

Enjoyed each one greatly, and still miss the nimbleness of a 1900lb car, and the classic Guigaro design.

LOL. I looked at that car too, but didn't see Roger's comments. I suppose

an F150 is a better hauler but I have a picture somewhere of my old GTI

loaded to the point that it was likely worthy of the back page in Autoweek.

I bought the 83 GTI when I fell in live with my friends' 81 Scirocco S. Two

friends each had a black one. The GTI was great but it did not provide what

I liked about the Sciroccos. Anyway, the overloading of the GTI was not

done by me, but by my father when I sold it to him and he lived outside of

Boston and bought a bunch of furniture at a yard sale one day. If I can

find the pic, I'll scan it and get it online... maybe submit it to AW.
