Well......my luck ran out, and the sensor finally said "NO".....I had
to pick my g-friend up in Seattle(80 miles), and planned accordingly
with a jug of water and a funnel/hose for the impending no start
issue. Easily could have driven the truck, but didn't. Embarassing
as it is, I actually brought my Chitty Chitty Bang Bang thermos from
my childhood lunchbox(which would still exist if I didn't use it for
"kick the can" at some point and I no longer have it. Told it would
be worth at least $100 if I still had it.....Anyway, put ice water in
the thermos, and the car was flawless going down there. Flight got
delayed(Southwest, leader in delay's from US NEWS) from 9pm to the
eventual 12:45 PM....we stayed at my friend's place nearby. Car
started fine hot/cold the night before/that night. Got up, car
started, got breakfast, car started(hot)...going thru traffic towards
the highway, car pukes totally in dense traffic.. Good friend/best
Saab mechanic on the west coast is luckily 4 blocks away, and I get
it there.....It's still early, and nobody's there......It's right on
Boeing Field, and Seafair is this weekend, so the Blue Angles are
taking off for their training run(which was the cause of some of the
gridlock as they close the bridge for safety.....)......While waiting
for my friend to get to work(he's a ferry guy)....they take off, and
buzz the neighborhood low.....6 FA-18Hornet's at takeoff right over
the shop was awsome....then when they buzzed us at full throttle 200
ft......thought it was going to break some windshields(30 saab
windshields, with mine included)......the neighborhood was packed, as
people know, their "warm up" is out of Boeing Field", and it's pretty
easy to find a spot at the end of the runway which is where they
point upwards......Kinda fun.
So I decided(as the 2 new sensors are in transit as we speak), to
just switch the 2 sensors.......When I finally got them out(lacking
my 10mm box end that's bent to get at them......I switched the
sensors, and was good to go. The reference sensor was "loose" at the
sensor end and tested to zero, and taped it up before reinstalling
both....got us home. How did it start with the "speed" sensor
testing zero?......I don't really care, as the new ones are here on
Monday, and I won't have to worry about it.....Tom
