[V8] Factory towing package

Perception is 9/10 of reality for the majority of people. The final
statement on the Audi UA debacle was published by the NHTSA several years
later with little fanfare. It likely went largely unnoticed by many and has
been largely forgotten by anyone who did hear of it. They will remember the
drama of the hysteria before the fact that it was determined to be "driver
pedal misapplication".
I agree this does not seem to be similar in nature regarding the cause, but
the effect is very much so and that is what people are focusing on in the
here and now.
Toyotas sales have already dropped by 13-17 percent measurably. The stock
took a significant hit after the Transportation Secretary "misspoke".
Damage has been done and it's up to Toyota to limit and repair it.

I think I already mentioned it, but yea, Audi's sales numbers after the 86
"60 Minutes" scandals fell by half, and took a decade to reach the numbers
they were in 87, about the time they started falling.
The thing is, there isn't a big comparison between the two. The Audi thing
was fabricated, and not a real issue. This Toyota thing is a really really
big issue. Toyota designed a vehicle and shipped it from the factory with a
flaw that is really truly killing people. Though I do believe its because
mostly of incompetent/uneducated drivers, this time it is not wholly their
fault as it was in the Audi case. So, I think we are going to see a much
bigger backlash with the toyota situation, such as more like 2/3s drop of in
the near future.
