The motor Curtis got, was the long block from my 91 5-speed. I recently swapped the 4.2 in, so the harness stayed with my car. As far as the engine wiring goes, all of the injectors plugs are labeled 1-8, so you can't screw that up. The rest of the wiring is either color coded(green knock sensor to green plug, brown knock sensor to brown plug..... ect ect ) remaining plugs Will only fit there there counterpart sensors. Pretty straight forward.I would definitely remove the front radiator support to ease in the removal of the motor. everything stays bolted to the radiator support, so you wont have a pile of parts laying around.

Curtis you have my number, so don't be afraid to use it if you get stuck ;)

FYI

Things you should be prepared for when motor is out:

Rack replacement (now is the time to do it, if it needs one)

motor mounts

new exhaust nuts, bolts and lock washers

new fluids(coolant,hydraulic, transmission fluid

seal on front input shaft of transmission (they do leak)

rear main seal (your is already done ;)  )

As long as you get the new engine with a wiring harness installed, there's
no need to remove any connections on the engine.  Audi did a very good job
(IMO) of making the engine a serviceable module.  There are 3 Kostal
connectors in the drivers footwell which have the engine connectors ... you
disconnect the engine from the rest of the vehicle there ...

I found the procedure as documented in the service manual to be more than
adequate.

If you don't have one, get a digital camera and take tons
of pictures of the old engine before you pull it. You can
use them to help you figure out which wire or hose goes
where, and how to route them around the hot bits.
