... I worried about that too ... after having had to redo the door locks on
2 V8s ... I'm afraid no more ... :-)
If anything the bolts allow motion fore/aft and perhaps up and down. You can
loosen the bolts and mark the positions vertically and horizontally on the
cutout in the door panel.
The door panel lifts up and comes out. Unless you disconnect all the
electrical and vacuum lines the door will tend to pivot away from the car at
the top ...

I've seen the shims and the bolts, buy my fear is that the shims are
wedges, and if you don't get them "just right" the door will never
be the same. But at this point I'm going remove the inside panel,
take lots of pictures, remove the motor/regulator, push the window
back up, figure out how to keep it up (no Viagra jokes, please), and
worry about the motor when the weather turns nicer.
