Hi,

aligning your carriage is never a bad idea. This gives you assurance 
that it's something else ;)

It may help a lot to change the steering damper - it's usually worn out 
on our cars. This at least provides a more stable straight ahead 
driving. Besides that it may also be an idea to adjust your steering 
calibration bolt - it is the one in the middle of the three bolts on top 
of the steering gear. It was like a reborn of the whole feeling of 
driving the car after I did that on mine - after the years it's usually 
too loose and you have less control as expected.
