[V8] coolant temperature fault flashing

I thought that the flashing thermometer was only for the level on the expansion tank?  Could be a bad switch?  Try unhooking the switch and jumpering the contacts to check - be careful if the expansion tank is old it will break when you try this.  I guess that light could come on if the car thought that it was overheating - but I don't remember that light being there for that reason.  Someone else may remember.  Good luck.
