Ooh. Revivin a somewhat long dead conversation... but I did find some
usefull info in the Knowledge base yesterday... go figure. I can rarely get
to it from my phone, which is more often my tool for the v8 list than a
computer as I'm about never home anymore..

Anyway, I've been dealing with leaky hydraulics since I got this car, and
decided to finish doing all the seals in my pump yesterday... So I did pop
it out and bring it to the shop and start pulling it apart. There is no
more frustrating job than this that I have tackled on the V8, yet. I'll
take the multifunction switch any day, thanks much....

So, maybe someone guessed, but at the poor advice of my father we pulled the
small triangle mount for the pulley off before trying heat. Or, rather we
tried to pull it off and instead broke one of the ears for a screw off
instead. We did get it off the second time after a short trip to my shop
to grab my oxy-acetylene set and roasting the triangle-sans-corner piece
till it was starting to cherry on the edges. Compared to last time, that
sucker practically jumped right off the pump's output shaft on its own.
So, for sure, if you try this on your own, you must use some sort of heat.
Map gas, Air-acetylene, or Oxy-Acetylene or what not, and get it somewhat
hot.

Anyway, I'm trying to epoxy that piece back on now. If that doesn't work,
I'm going to try and weld the whole ear back together solid, and then
redrill and retap the hole. If THAT doesn't work, I'll probably grab some
decent steel (this piece is cast) and give making one a shot. Our machine
shop is old/dated, but we have drill presses, lathes, mills, and an amazing
square wave miller welder stack there, hopefully I can get something fabbed
up that works.

If not, anyone have a spare pump thats toast, or just a pump they can sell
me? Kinda want this car running, what with the 3 or so inches of slush on
the ground.

Hope everyone's having better luck with their car than I am this
week/weekend. I swear I should just leave broken well enough alone, instead
of breaking things further... hah.
