[V8] A6 hydraulic fluid

I have only done this on the cars I mentioned. I have no experience with
anything other than that. I have added Mobil-1 Synthetic ATF to the
pentosin reservoir. I have been doing this for a couple of years now. I
have not replaced all fluid in the system with M1 Synth ATF. It has been
mixed in with Pentosin and Rykon. If anything, some leaks, those related to
hose crimps have slowed. I'm not sure what clutch you are referring to.
The hydraulic pump provides power assist for both steering and braking, with
reserve pressure stored in "the bomb". I am only sharing my experience. I
found some info on a forum, I think Audiworld, some posts from someone a few
years ago, a guy in Canada if I recall correctly, who had been doing this
with his V8. He had some info, some comparison between the make-up of M1
Synth ATF and Pentosin. His experience was that it actually fixed leaks on
his car, or at least slowing them to a point that was "acceptable". I had a
really leaky hose on my 1990 V8 and this was greatly alleviated by using M1
Synth ATF. I have a car that I stored for several weeks during very cold
weather. It had no leaks previously, but had a large puddle under it after
is sat unused in cold weather. I filled it back up with Mobil 1 ATF and
this did not happen again. It still has a bit of any issue when I let my GF
drive the car because she is not as "gentle" with the steering in regard to
turning the wheel only when moving and/or less assertively when parking.
For instance, when she drives that car and parks it in the driveway, there
is usually a small spot of hydraulic fluid under the car the next day. This
does not occur when I have parked it there. Anyway, it's not a cure-all,
but it seems to help swell the rubber hose where the ends are crimped on and
I have not experienced any negative symptoms. Regular ATF will cause
problems, but the make-up of the M1 Synthetic ATF seems to be compatible
with the system. Just my experience.

I am using Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in all my V8's and my 200 Avant, mixed with
Pentosin and Rykon 32 with no issues.

Check the archives for:
Chevron RYKON 32
Mobil DTE-13M
Those are the 2 I remember offhand, there was also a Ford (tractor) and
Sunoco oil that fit the bill too. It all depends on what region of the
country you live in as to the availability of the different substitutes.
There were a few more, I'm sure listers will chime in with the others.
Before any anal types get their panties in a bunch, my fleet of 4 type 44's
is alive and well after 15+ years of nothing by DTE in the hydraulics. I
also run DTE in place of the ubber expensive OEM fluid in the hydraulic
suspension of the Mercyless Benz (I can flush the system every year now
without having to mortgage the house.) If the sky was gonna fall, it would
have done it by now.
BCNU,
Yahoo nuked my website with no warning.
