[V8] A6 hydraulic fluid

Hi Dave, later last night I did go look up the email exchange from about 2.5
years ago and sure enough, it was you, but there was another guy, Andrew
Dickinson, who I also heard from on it. Here are his comments:
"I just mixed the synthetic ATF in with the green gold. On my first car it
had no chance of stopping the leaks since they were too severe. To my
surprise it did slow the leak substantially. The same seems to be the case
in my current car. I did stop a leak in my previous Avant though. My
thoughts are that if parts need replacing then it isn't going to hurt and
the ATF is a MUCH cheaper fluid to leak onto the road than the $40/l
Pentosin. Just top up the reservoir to the full line and go from there."
Not sure exactly which vehicles he was treating. I am using synthetic ATF
mixed with Pentosin (or the bulk equivalents that have been identified over
the years) in four V8's. My intent in doing so and my observation is that
it has slowed if not stopped some leaks. For example, it did not resolve an
o-ring leak at the pump, but it did greatly improve leaks at hose ends,
crimped or clamped. I have on one car eventually corrected the leaks, but
the immediacy of doing so was removed.

Ed that was Me, But a little correction, it's a 5000 . I've run Mobil ATF in
My Audi 5000 CD qt 1987 for 8 years now with no problems or leaks.
V8 still has the Pentosin in it .
The ATF has no problem dealing with the Canadian cold .
