or....a homemade tool can be fashioned by welding a pipe handle to the side of desired steel  socket so you can still access the allen bolt down through.....has worked for me.

But  why not just take the whole strut out of the car??

Hey Roger, like Ed said, most everyone uses the largest channel  
lock's they've got.  I love tools, and had every intention of buying  
the long socket from Samstag, but bought the 5-speed with new  
everything, and haven't gotten around to the Lago car since.  Good
