My '90 V8 was converted to A8 rotors and Mercedes S-Class calipers.
I didn't do the work, but I know there is a fabricated adapter to
bolt the caliper to the strut.  I don't think it would be "cheap",
but the work very well.  I don't know if an A6 combo would work
as well.
