Interesting thread....as I happen to have 3 Auto ECUs and a 2 stock 5psd
one's I may just swap them around for fun....though I thought an auto one
will not start the car due to issues with starter lockout on an auto? I have
some chip switching to do and can try the other auto ECUs I have and will
see what happens....I'm happy to report back.
But, I do have some BTDT regarding smoking V8's.....not to start another
oil related thread, but I have noticed big differences with both usage and
smoke on deceleration (usually worm valve guide issues -which not so
coincidently happens on lots of the same era VW's which I also own and race) based
on oil. Seems the higher mileage specific oils seem to smoke a lot less
than the other standard Dino oils.
Mobil 1 and other full syns don't smoke much either......my guess is that
some oils may have better ingredients and just do a better job with older
seals.... ???
I also think fuel systems can cause issues too. I just replaced my FPR, OXS
sensor, and TPS, and cleaned the TB and aux air valve and dialed the
linkage back in, no more issues with stumble, smoke on acceleration or surging,
so as always usage and maintenance always come into play.
