Sorry, I was responding to something and realized, I'd gone off
track,so I changed the header. Pretty sure I've posted this before,
but since there are a lot of new people.... I need to back this up
with the fact there are 3 refineries within "local" distance with me,
and I know some refinery people...When it was ARCO(before
BP)....".they" told me not to buy ARCO regular(which I would never
do in the audi/saabs(required premium).....They made "regular" gas,
then adjusted for octane. Most of the stuff that would become"light
waste" end's up in the regular tank(volatile's that are not
marketable). The "heavys" end up in our roads/foofing/etc....Tank
#2 has the "lighter gas".They add Toluene/light volatiles to adjust
octane to make the higher grades. It's against their interest to
have to add more Toluene/light volatiles to make up for "lower
grade"(toluene/light volatile's are pricy)(, and thus, the higher
grade gas, is cleaner/better(come's off the top as it were). That
would be tank #2.....Just for the record..Tank #1 tak'e's twice as
long to clean as tank #2....We're talking 100,000 gallon tanks)BP for
instance ships to many different stations, and the end users add
whatever additives they feel necessary(V-power/techron etc.......Not
saying that BP is making fuel fo shell/chevron, but you get the
picture......not sure at this point who's making who's stuff, as it's
changed a lot in the last 10 yrs....For all of you, fresh Premium is
all that matters, and the no-name place right out of the Holland
tunnel, could easily be better than the Chevron in Pinedale
WY?......You all know your Audi needs premium, but if you have a
vehicle that says it could use regular....I'd suggest you use the
midgrade.....Tom
