Hey Ed.....the suspense is killing me. When I got the Lago car in
02, it had been sitting in a heated garage for years in your neck of
the woods, and had 52K. First thing I did when I got home was the
fuel filter, as I knew nothing about Audi's, but I did know for a
fact,it was an original filter. As did yours, mine had the felt pad,
which I assumed was put there for a reason, and even scraped it off,
and installed it on the new Bosch filter I bought. Not only was
there a noticeable difference, but when I cut in open(I do that to
all of them)...the pleats were totally black, with small chunks of
fuel line/whatever in there. If you're garbage hasn't already come/
still have it, cut it open just for fun. For what it's worth, I just
ran 2 separate quarts of Techron/5 gallons fuel(concentrated) on a
small roadtrip, and the 5-speed feels even better/smoother(it sat a
bit the last couple of years before I got it). Good luck with the
hose...Tom
