[V8] Transmission

I doubt it is the diff- BTDT. It is wishful thinking and I went down that  
road myself when my 2nd V8 trans stopped working.
I completely echo what Jason stated- firstly check the oil, if it smells  
burned and it dark then you need a new trans or rebuild.
The ZF trans in our cars suffers from small pump syndrome according to my  
past rebuilder- along with poorly lubed main bearings (almost always the 
failure  after the filter clogs up).
