A couple of points. 'Prone to bottoming out' is higher with the lighter spring rate of the 5ktq. The end result is not the same. I'm not a fan of lowering a v8, but that's not addressing the OP target.
Audi v8 onlylists 2 perches based on Vin - the late is the same as the urS car. The 5ktq lists 3, and IIRC, they are notinterchangeable 5k>v8 due to the larger ID of the v8 steeringbearing.
Sport shocks in a stock spring? BTFixedT. That's creates spring binding (especially ugly under braking) that makes these cars ride like crap IMO.

"WRT spring stiffness, given the alternate suggestion of using a lower rate 5k spring, isn't lowering the perch 'better' since it is done with a higher spring rate vs a 5ktq? So the 5ktq spring would be 'just plain retarded' comparatively speaking, yes?"
My argument,is that the end result would be the same. While lowering the perches with stock springs wont cause the car to come crashing down on the bump stops, like the softer 5k springs may. They will both cause the car to be more prone to bottoming out.
As for swapping the damning rings, Hardly a hack, as Audi listed several thickness for the V8 according to ETKA last time I checked, though I haven't checked lately.
Another thought (and this is just a thought) While I don't particularly care for the Billstien mono-tube design in our cars or as inserts, they do offer a sport shock that is shorter in length (their sport shock made for lowering springs) I'd bet that a set of those installed with a stock spring, may give you the 1/2" your looking for while increasing the spring rate (through further pre-loading?) Just thinking out loud

For slight variations in ride height the spring dampers can work. IME that's less than .5in using 'damper' mods.

IME/O on 44/V8/C4 suspensions, wheel travel is what makes them great. There are a lot of ways to make these cars handle better at stock ride height, btdt. But, to the original poster, given the alternatives, the perch mod accomplishes the task well, and is hardly a 'hack'.
