[V8] Lowering....

I offer plenty of btdt. And can't think of an Audi chassis since 1983 that I haven't done suspension mods too, including the renouned 'untouchable' hydraulic linked suspension RS6. Will a 5ktq spring *work* in a v8 application? Sure. Is a cut and reweld with a stock spring an equal or better alternative? Sure. Can I laugh at a lot of failures to mods I've done over the years? Sure. Am I the 'final' word on anything? I sure hope not.

As a former Rally guy myself, and a 8 year Crew Chief for a GroupA S2, I agree rally guys often go softer than stock, and RAISE ride heights when doing so, mostly for wheel travel. In Audis case in fact, on the WRC urquattros, Audisport *raised* the upper spring perch and put in a longer spring = more wheel travel without changing ride height.

And, yes you can lower a v8 with a 5ktq spring. The 'opinion' of better turn-in not withstanding.

Straying quite a ways from the OP. Add in the OP has no money for 'looks', the whole exercise of a 'looks' mod seems a bit silly to me.

My final 2 cents here regarding relocating the perch and lowering:
As far as the mod -not- being a 'hack' - that is an arguable point at best.
It's not easy to reverse if it doesn't work out, and quite a bit of work.
And again, I hear all this doom and gloom like serious bottoming regarding
running a maybe 10% softer springs, and I just do not see that as a truly
valid issue. That said, most rally guys go softer than stock all the time
without major issues.
I also find it very funny to be lectured about something I'm very, very
well versed in- and not just on one chassis.
I mentioned the overall EASIEST method to achieve what Jason is looking to
do, with the least issues, and may even make the car handle a little better
too boot!
So, I find it very interesting that Scott J is happy to offer what -he-
thinks to be the FINAL word on many subjects, and then the subject almost
always turn into pissing matches when folks talk about alternate points of
view.
I wish people could be more constructive about how and what they
say....that's all.
Enough said.
Cheers,
Jack

But, to the original poster, given the alternatives, the perch mod
accomplishes the task well, and is hardly a 'hack'.
