You do realize I'm talking about the "retaining nut" that holds the cartridge in the knuckle, and nut the nut at the top of the strut? Just want to be clear about that. Al

I shot it with the impact gun when I put it back together but it didn't afecct anything. Maybe I'll try to crank up the settings on the wrench and give that a try

IIt sounds like a hollow metal knock. 

I did find that theinner lower control arm bushing (the one in the subframe) looks a little shredded. Hmmmm...
